IPL Hair Removal
Professional Hair Removal at Skin Health Studio
We offer both IPL Hair Removal and Super Hair Removal, which allows me to choose the option that best suits your skin, hair type, and comfort level.
Both treatments work by targeting the pigment in the hair follicle using light energy. Over time, this helps reduce the hair’s ability to regrow. Super Hair Removal delivers energy more gradually, which many clients find more comfortable, especially if they have sensitive skin.
If you’re not sure which option is right for you, we can always talk it through together.
IPL Hair Removal
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light technology. Essentially, the device utilises high-energy light to achieve long-term hair reduction. It works by progressively reducing the re-growth of hair by applying gentle pulses of light to heat to the hair root (i.e. hair follicle). This puts the hair into a resting phase. Existing hair then sheds naturally and regrowth is greatly slowed down.
SHR: Super Hair Removal
SHR (Super Hair Removal) is the latest technology in laser hair removal. SHR technology combines IPL technology with pulsating light which allows us to achieve lower Pain Hair Removal than other machines. SHR uses new technology that gradually heats the skin until the required level of heat/energy is delivered directly to the hair follicle, all without causing trauma to skin.

What to expect during your Hair Removal session
Hair removal treatments are straightforward and usually quite quick. You may feel warmth or a light snapping sensation during treatment, depending on the area being treated. There’s no downtime afterwards. Some mild redness or warmth can happen, but this usually settles quickly and you can carry on with your day as normal.
It works best when treatments are done consistently and supported with the right care between sessions. Avoiding waxing or plucking and following aftercare advice helps each treatment do its job properly. As your hair responds, treatment timing and settings can be adjusted to keep results progressing.

Frequently Asked Questions for IPL & SHR Hair Removal
How does SHR Laser Hair Removal work?
SHR differs from traditional Laser/IPL as it also targets the hair stem cells and blood supply that feeds it. It does not rely solely on the colour (pigment) of the hair to effectively destroy the targeted hair follicle.
New clinical research has shown that a slower and longer focused heating process by SHR is more effective for permanent hair reduction than high and short levels of energy used in traditional Laser/IPL systems.
SHR Laser Hair Removal gradually heats the skin by an in motion or sliding technique until the ideal amount of energy is delivered to the hair follicle. This new technology heats the hair follicle gently and for longer. This means the hair stem cells and blood supply are directly targeted.
Hair follicles are not damaged by a single high energy pulse as in traditional Laser/IPL but by repetitive application of low energy pulses that raise the temperature of the dermis gradually and for longer.
Why do I need several treatments?
Hair growth occurs in 4 stages: Early Anagen (early hair growth), Anagen (active hair growth), Catagen (regression) and Telogen (resting, not growing).
SHR IPL hair removal only affects the Anagen stage (actively growing hair). Therefore, approximately 25% of hair is removed with each treatment. A few treatments are therefore required for the treatment area to be hair free.
How does SHR Laser Hair Removal feel?
SHR technology filters out unnecessary wavelengths which are not needed making the treatment very comfortable and painless. Most people say it just feels like a warm shave or warm massage.
What do I need to do to prepare for my IPL Hair Removal appointment?
- Shave treatment area at least 12-24 hours prior to your treatment
- Avoid chemical peels or laser resurfacing treatments at least 4 weeks before your treatment
- Avoid excessive sun exposure on the area being treated 2 weeks prior
- Exfoliate the treatment area at least 3 days before your treatment
- Ensure no residue fake tan is present on the skin
- Avoid using topical creams/moisturisers, perfumes to the area being treated before the appointment
- Do not wax, use depilatory creams or pluck hairs four weeks prior to laser treatment
How often do I need to get IPL Hair Removal?
Depending on the hair, skin type, and body area being treated, you will require treatments at 4-6 weeks intervals. For the facial area, treatments should be done in 2-week intervals unless recommended otherwise.
Each part of the facial and body area has a different growing cycle, so hair reduction will vary depending on what stage your follicles are in at the time of the treatment. After each treatment hair is reduced hence it is important to complete the entire recommended course of treatments and at consistent intervals for best results. We recommend a series of 8-12 treatments and maintenance treatments every 2-3 months for permanent hair reduction.
Does IPL Hair Removal hurt?
One of the benefits of IPL Hair Removal is that the treatment is virtually painless, especially compared to waxing. Each pulse lasts less than a second, producing a slight tingling feeling. In particularly sensitive areas, such as the upper lip, it may feel like a rubber band snap on the skin. We use an advanced cooling machine in conjunction with our laser device to reduce the heat sensation on the skin and minimise any discomfort.
Can hair grow back after a series of SHR Laser Hair Removal?
Yes, new hair growth is triggered if you go through any hormonal changes such as starting or stopping contraceptive pills, pregnancy, menopause, changes in medications or long term stress.
